Library Remodel - Matching Grant

Wildcats PTO has embarked on a multi year matching grant in partnership with Durango Education Fund (DEF). PTO’s 1st pledged towards the project, is $5,000 ($10,000 total with matching DEF grant) to begin renovations of Needham Library.

In the 1st phase of this update, parent volunteers have given over 50 hrs of their time to pull dated and under utilized books, many dating back to the 1970’s. Over the course of 6 weeks, 2 hrs at a time, 10,000 books were pulled from the shelves. When this process began, Needham had over 20,000 books on the shelves. Current day libraries have between 5,000-8,000 books. PTO hosted the Eras Book Tour Sale to sell & donate all of the dated books. All proceeds from the used book sale are being put back into the library remodel.

Now that we have made some space in the library, over the coming months students and staff are working together to come up with a design for what our ideal library will look like.

We are excited to start seeing renovations over the summer!
